People who keep loads of garbage in the footwells/ seats of their car upset me. Mines full of random tools and stuff but I at least keep them in the boot...

The back seat of my Civic has:
Tablet I need to repair
Three amplifiers
10” subwoofer (not hooked up)
Plushie or two
Two socket sets (shitty walmart ones)
Four or five aux cables
suction cup phone mount
FM transmitter I don’t use anymore
phone chargers (two or three)
Fortunately later today my plan is to clean. And clean. And clean.

Hey! Who made an XKCD about my car? And I’ll have you know that I got rid of the raccoon weeks ago!
Heh. Actually... My car is just filled with a bunch of old water bottles (it’s hot in Texas in the summertime), and old receipts, and a walking stick (hey, I might get the urge to go hiking someday). And random assorted crap I need for work.

Plushie or two
I have a Domo plushie dressed like a dinosaur and an Ugly Doll permanently stationed in my back seat. They guard my car. Heh.
This weekend I went through my car and threw out all the empty water bottles that had accumulated, but there’s still more stuff to clear out. Like... why do I have a t-shirt in there and a cardigan? And a pullover sweater? It’s fricken 100 degrees out! Heh.

My back seat is just a mailbox.
No, literally. That’s where I put my mail because no one sends me anything interesting in the mail.

12 years ago I drove through LA, Texas, NM and Arizona in July and August with a good friend in an old Suburban towing a camper. The truck was overheating in the full daytime sun and 110+ temps (126 in Phoenix!!), so we mostly drove at night, but sometimes during the day when we had no other choice. We froze water bottles in the camper’s fridge overnight, and drank them as they melted during the day, tossing them into the back seat. By the time we got out of Arizona the back seat was almost level with empty water bottles. It was a running joke for years afterwards!
Fun aside - to avoid overheating in Phoenix, we resorted to running the heater at full blast to aid the poor radiator with some extra cooling. The air blowing out of the vents was 185F!

Oh, yeah. I only recently took my leather jacket and hoodie out of the back seat. I totally forgot about the multiple empty QuikTrip cups, soda bottles, and energy drink cans. Good thing the recycling gets picked up tomorrow!
Yeah my girlfriend gave me a plushie fish. It keeps unwanteds out of my back seat.

Comparing this with your other post/cross-referencing leads to the inevitable conclusion that a Domo plushie is “assorted crap” needed for work - even at permanent guard station in the car. Which, it seems obvious, now.

You didn’t mention the plushies. Now I just have to assume they are important part of your work equipment.

My back seat currently has my under-dash panel - because my ignition cylinder failed last week and I’ve got all that pulled apart so I can start the car with a screwdriver. Also, two books: The Dilbert Principle and a sourcebook for the RIFTS rpg, because of course.

Maybe it was the dead animal theme, but was definitely thinking the insect before I read your parenthetical statement.

Heh. Like I just commented to KAC, they’re pretty vital to my everyday work responsibilities. Here’s a photo of them when my car was clean:

My last car, a very loyal, trusty Cavalier, started having overheating problems near the end of its life. The a/c had already gone kaput a couple of years prior, so it was always a hot drive in that thing, but one day I got stuck on a bridge in summertime tourist traffic. That bridge, just over two miles long, gridlocked, taking about three hours to cross. There are no shoulders or emergency lanes on it, either, so if your car dies you inconvenience everyone around you in a very big way. I spent those three hours with the heater on full blast and all the windows open. I even resorted to turning the engine off entirely during the very long spells when traffic wasn’t moving at all. I got very lucky, because it never stalled.

For me it was usually, “Let me clean out the front passenger seat.” When I was a single man (and to an extent after I was married because the wife rarely rode in the pickup) the front floorboard would be filled with receipts, fast food bags and cups, random trash.
My wife is really good at trashing up a car (I swear I clean reams and reams of random papers from her Altima at least once a week) but it doesn’t come close to how my pickup was most of the time. Now I’m leasing a new CR-V and even a minor scuff on a door panel makes me anxious.

Heh. Ain’t that the truth! I used to keep two changes of clothes, an extra pair of shoes or two, rain boots, non-perishable food, and all sorts of other crazy stuff in my car back when I was photogging all over the place. Now I’m more office-bound, but still keep stuff “just in case.” Heh.

My car is absolutely spotless. I hate having stuff bouncing around and making noise when I’m driving.

I have been very good about back seat maintenance lately. Currently the only things back there are a baseball cap, a broken phone charger that I keep forgetting to remove, and a stainless fork that I have no clue as to the origin of because I didn’t put it there and it doesn’t match the rest of my silverware anyways.
